History
A brief history of the Bacteria Division
A group of SIP members interested in the formation of a Division of Bacteriology
met at the 1995 Annual Meeting of the Society for Invertebrate Pathology held
at Cornell University, Ithaca, NY, in 1995. Brian Federici, USA, was selected
to draft the By-Laws for the Division and, following a sollicitation published
in the SIP Newsletter, 130 SIP members signed up as "charter" members of the
Division
Initially named Division of Bacteriology, the Bacteria Division was formally established at the 1996 Annual Meeting of the SIP in Cordoba, Spain. Its By-Laws were approved at the Annual Meeting of the SIP which took place in Banff, Alberta, Canada in 1997.
The initial officers of the Division were André Klier, France (Chair), Barbara
Knowles,UK (Chair-Elect), who resigned owing to other responsibilities and was
replaced by David Ellar, UK, William Moar, USA (Secretary/Treasurer), Elizabeth
Davidson, USA and Susan MacIntosh, USA (both Members-at-large).
